Man Gets 18 Months For Forcing His Daughter To Kill A Cat

29 08 2008

This is the sort of stuff that I find scary.

A man was sentenced to 18 months in prison after admitting that he forced his 7-year-old daughter to kill the family cat by holding a knife in her hand and making her stab the pet.

“I am extremely sorry for what I did,” Danield J. Collins said during his sentencing Thursday. “Everything is my responsibility.”

Collins, 39, pleaded guilty to a felony count of animal cruelty and two felony counts of neglect of a dependent. In exchange, prosecutors dropped three other felony charges.

“This is not civilized conduct,” Judge Robert Barnet Jr. said as he sentenced Collins.

Under the plea agreement, Collins must receive counseling and attend parenting classes and substance abuse treatment. The judge also prohibited Collins from owning a pet.

Collins was arrested March 13 after police said he forced his daughter to stab Boots, the family’s 8-month-old cat. The girl and Collins’ 11-year-old son said their father ordered them to stab the cat because he wanted them to “learn to kill.”

Why in the HELL would this man do this? He makes his kids kill a cat?

I don’t get people sometimes.

Judge Sets Bond at $5 Mil In Domestic Violence Case

18 04 2008

I don’t get people. I swear sometimes I don’t.

A judge has ordered a $5 million bond for a man accused of caging and shooting at his new bride.

Matthew George is accused of handcuffing his wife, Mary Swihart, and putting her in a dog cage the size of a 4-foot cube.

Police say the 28-year-old also fired several shots at her feet while their 15-month-old child was in an adjoining room.

George faces charges of abduction, felonious assault and domestic violence.

Okay, George put his wife in a cage, shot at her and is an abusive, crazy person.

The judge set the bond at $5 million. This judge, in my opinion, is a rock star and awesome.

Dear Washington Post

3 03 2008

Why in the hell are you giving Charlotte Allen valuable newspaper real estate in your paper? I just read her column called “We Scream, We Swoon, How Dumb Can We Be?” and all I have to say is that has to be the biggest crock of poo I’ve read in a long time.

When are mainstream media outlets going to abandon the burning stupids?

My teeth are clenched over this one. Seriously clenched.

This is the same woman that wrote back in 2005 “Why are Airline Flight Attendants so Awful … and ugly?

And, for balance, both conservatives and progressives are calling foul on this one.

A good point, WP, is that if you are wanting to increase your female readership (something you’ve been whining about) then running crap like this isn’t helping your cause.

Echidne breaks it down:

The Washington Post is a step ahead of you. Women are either dim or fickle. Probably tomorrow they’ll have a thoughtful column which shows that we could be both dim and fickle!

It’s going to be a long election year, isn’t it.

Prosperity And Peace?

8 02 2008

Just two questions.

Where is the prosperity and where is the peace, Pres. Bush?

President Bush, rallying conservatives for a battle against Democratic presidential hopefuls Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama, says “prosperity and peace” are at stake in the upcoming election for his successor.

“We have had good debates and soon we will have a nominee who will carry the conservative banner into this election and beyond,” Bush said in prepared remarks of a speech he was to give Friday to the Conservative Political Action Conference.

“Prosperity and peace are in the balance,” the president said in speech excerpts the White House released on Thursday night. “So with confidence in our vision and faith in our values, let us go forward … fight for victory … and keep the White House in 2008.”

Karl Rove back in town?

The Delusional Life Of Rush Limbaugh

7 02 2008

The day that Rush Limbaugh fundraises for Hillary Clinton or any Democrat for that matter will be the same day that my six-inch Rat Corgi whom you know named Mabel will drive a car and teach astrophysics at the local college.

I’m just saying.

A Day In The Life Of George

12 12 2007

Well, it doesn’t include one I. Scooter Libby.

For now, at least.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Bush granted pardons Tuesday to carjackers, drug dealers, a moonshiner and a violator of election laws, but not to I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, his vice president’s former top aide who was convicted in the case of the leaked identity of a CIA operative.

In all, Bush pardoned 29 convicts and reduced the prison sentence of one more, in the end-of-the-year presidential tradition.

Justice Department spokesman Erik Ablin said Bush has granted 142 pardons and commuted five sentences since taking office in 2001 — lagging far behind the pace set by most modern presidents.

Wondering to myself who the Decider will pardon at the end of next year as this is “an end-of-the-year presidential tradition.”

And that’s the end of his presidency.

Thinking, thinking…

You know, when he’s not working on his “legacy” which is sort of toilet-a-fied at the moment  but let’s go to this story, shall we.

President Bush says Iran must explain why it hid a past nuclear weapons program from United Nations inspectors. VOA White House Correspondent Scott Stearns reports, Iran says it is enriching uranium only for a peaceful civilian program to generate electricity.

President Bush is trying to keep international pressure on Iran after last week’s National Intelligence Estimate found that Tehran stopped its nuclear weapons program four years ago.

Umm, why is he doing this?

Seriously.
