Gannett To Cut 1,000 Jobs

SAN FRANCISCO — Gannett Co. will cut 1,000 newspaper jobs, or about 3% of that division’s workforce, the company said Thursday. Employees affected by layoffs will be notified by the end of the month.

I’ve got to wrap my head around this one.

Newscoma, do you or any of your colleagues work for Gannet? Do you feel that their near monopoly is bad for media? Just curious.

Southern Beale

Sign of the times. Big lumbering corporate print media is dead. Small independent local media is thriving.

I guess no one wants to pay to read the same AP wire stories they can get online for free. No one could have anticipated ….

It amazes me that we keep preaching this, So. Beale, yet people aren’t getting it.
News is changing and we are seeing the casualties daily.

It’s a very unfortunate situation but there are still plenty of good opportunities available in newspapers. I am a newspaper recruiter and have plenty of open positions…anything from Art Director to Editor to admin. Feel free to contact me or to pass along my information to anyone that is looking. Google me and you will see my job ads.
